Some spaces are in desperate need of help, but not necessarily a new design. Before you start tearing out walls or spending money to rearrange your plumbing, evaluate if the space is set up to function properly if you left the footprint intact and focused on the quality, color and functionality of the materials/products? Kitchen and bath makeovers are, by far, the most expensive rooms to tackle in your home. They are also the hardest working rooms in your home, so function is critical. In this example, a small bathroom was able to take on new life with extremely budget-friendly swap outs.

What do you think? Anything worth keeping here? Definitely NOT!!! (Well, now that we're in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis, that roll of toilet paper looks like a keeper! LOL) The first order was to get everything out. We removed the over-the-toilet cabinet, toilet, vanity/top/faucet, light fixture and the trim. Added a few coats of bright white semi-gloss paint to the walls (see previous blog post: Paint: Your Genie in a Bottle), new budget-friendly fixtures, vinyl plank flooring, white floor trim and voila!, this bathroom was open for guests!

Sorry about the harsh lighting, but what a change to this space!! Clean and cute vs. old and dingy. This small makeover is a perfect example of when to take a budget-friendly path and get the maximum value for your dollar!
