Project Delays Are Hard!

Today there isn’t anyone working at my job site! Ugh! It’s painful as a contractor and small business owner, just as it’s painful to the homeowner. It’s not that we are behind schedule, technically the problem is we are ahead of schedule, which is causing the gap. In a perfect world, that schedule jump would remain and back everything back up to a quicker end date, but that doesn’t always work. Today there isn’t anyone working at my job site.

No progress is being made, yet it just has to be this way. Scheduling tighter windows for our skilled tradesmen and women causes stress and frustration as they struggle to meet unrealistic timelines. They trip over each other, causing the work to take longer than it should for them and ultimately costing the homeowner more money. Or, even worse, one trade’s schedule delay pushes the next trade so far that they need to go to their next job and try to “fit you in” when they can get back to you, wreaking havoc on the whole project!

So, for now, delays in my remodel project mean a quiet day for the homeowner. A paperwork day (YUCK!) for me and the consoling thought that we’re completely on schedule. There’s even time for me to get a little extra cleaning done at the job site to help reduce the dust and cleaning at the end.

Hopefully, the homeowners understand and are content with the overall project being on schedule and knowing we want to give them back their home as soon as we can!
